Female Guppy

The Guppy is one of the most popular tropical fish on the market. They are bright and colourful which really stands out in any aquarium. This listing is for assorted plain-bodied female guppy, which can be paired with colourful patterned males to produce similar offspring. You will be sent a completely random assortment of plain-bodied female guppies, tail colours will vary.

Originating from South America, Guppies can be found in mountain streams as well as brackish rivers. Wild Guppies can be found around the world in places like Barbados, Trinidad, Singapore, Venezuela and the USA.

Is it easy to breed Guppy fish?
Yes, it is extremely easy to breed guppies. If you pair a male and female, you are almost guaranteed regular offspring. Female guppies will be harassed constantly by males to breed, so keeping a ratio of more females than males, or segregating the sexes once impregnated, is a good idea to avoid stress issues. Guppies are livebearers, and will give birth to live fry rather than laying eggs.

Can Guppys breed without a male fish present?
No, but a unique feature among female guppies is their ability to give birth to several broods consecutively without male insemination occurring each time. This is possible because of special folds in the females genital area that store sperm for up to 6 months until needed for fertilization. This explains phantom births in female-only guppy setups.
